HOW TO DRIVE AN AMT (KWID CELERIO AND OTHERS)

  • Most of us in India – almost 95%+ in India have first started driving a Manual Transmission Car. The reason is the choice of Automatic in yester years was very limited to specific Model.

  • But with Times changing, increased traffic levels and Manufacturers Offering in Automatic / AMT Auto Gear Shift Models in most of the range including our entry segment Tata Nano, Renault Kwid, Maruti Alto K10 available in AMT giving convenience of buyers.
Is Driving Automatic Different than Manual Transmission

  • Its to be noted that driving Automatic is almost as good as what Manual Transmission is, you get the same steering, same brake, same accelerator.
  • Only thing changed is Gear Box and to offer in convenience is no Manual Clutch Option given as gears are changed Automatically with the increase and decrease in Speed
  • So your Left foot is completely free and can rest easily on Footrest (as placed in) instead of Clutch Pedal. The Brake and Accelerator pedal to be used only by the right foot.

Here the car is set on Park Mode. To Start the Car in Automatic – one always has to press brake and then turn on the ignition. Else the car engine will not Start
2. Been the car in Park Mode, when the engine start the car will not move unless you change the Gear to either Reverse or Drive Mode. Important to note that your Foot should remain on the brake till the time you select Drive or Reverse Mode.
3. Remove Foot from Brake only when the Hand Brake is down.
4. Now slowly release in the foot over Brake and the car automatically start moving in or reversing back as what the mode is chosen. This is what effectively the car crawls in automatically – known as Creep Function in Automatic car.
5. Next is to press the Speed Pedal as what you do in regular Manual Transmission car to gain in speed. Easy and Simple
6. In case of slowing speed – again use brake to slow down the vehicle.
7. Important to note that in Drive Mode – the gears are automatically shifted by the transmission system, only thing is to consider in speed to increase speed by pressing down accelerator or decrease speed using brake.
8.
Rest – Steering, Brake, Acceleration – all will work the way your regular car is. It turns out to be very easy to drive in the vehicle. At the time to halt the vehicle – release the acceleration pedal and press Brake pedal slowly to slow down the speed as what you do in your regular Transmission Car.
9. If reached destination on halt – use Park Mode to park the car.
